The mental and physical toll is evident in those who survive it. Producer Claire Schoen met nine former prisoners who describe what it looks, sounds and feels like to live in solitary confinement.

What an astonishing story! I am horrified by this practice, right here in America, that is quite literally cruel and unusual. We do indeed torture and it is appalling. Thank you, Storylife, Claire Schoen, and American Friends for shining a light into this dark and barbaric side of our benighted nation.
